Installing a cat door is easier than many people think - whether it's between rooms or through a door. Each door comes with step-by-step
instructions and some include an installation video.

Provided below are the installation instructions for our Staywell® Standard Door. While installation instructions vary slightly depending on the door type you select, most applications are similar to the instructions below.

Tools Required:
  • Pencil
  • Set Square
  • Ruler
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Tape Measure
  • Jig or Keyhole Saw
Measuring and marking:
Staywell Cat Door 1. Measure the belly height of your cat. This is usually 4-6" (100-150mm). Staywell Cat Door 2. Mark this measurement on the outside of your door and draw a straight horizontal line 6-5/8"
Cutting a hole for your cat flap in wood or metal doors, and walls:
Staywell Cat Door 3. Using the horizontal line as the starting point, draw a square 6-5/8" x 6-5/8"
(169mm x 169mm).
Staywell Cat Door 4. Drill holes at each corner.
Staywell Cat Door 5. Cut along the lines using a jig saw. Staywell Cat Door 6. Smooth out the rough edges.
Note: Cat Flaps are designed to fit any depth of hole. Simply attach the required number of Staywell 40 clip-on tunnel extensions (not included). Can be purchased directly from Innotek. Please call 1-800-845-3274, Monday thru Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.
Fitting your cat flap:
Staywell Cat Door 7. With the red 4-way lock positioned on the inside of your door, place the cat flap in the hole and mark screw holes in pencil, having first removed the blanking plugs. Staywell Cat Door 8. Remove the cat flap and drill the holes with a 3/16" (4.5mm) drill bit.
9. Screw into place and, if needed, cut the screws down to size and file to ensure no sharp edges.
Staywell Cat Door 10. Cover the screw holes with the blanking plugs supplied to ensure a neat finish.
Your Staywell® cat flap is now ready to use.
