Got Fleas?
Today's best products for flea control.

Beth, one of our graphic designers, tells a flea horror story about her days in Florida in the early 1990s.
She said that a friend had such a horrendous flea problem that she had to pour containers of salt all over her rug to kill the eggs.
That was her only option for her incessant flea problem.
Flea products have come a long way in the past decade.
What we used to get done with borax or toxic flea powders can now be taken care of with sprays, foggers, and a once-a-month topical.
The steps are nearly the same if you have a nasty infestation, but avoiding a flea problem in the first place is easier than ever in the 21st century.
Once-a-month flea prevention products have also come a long way. Pet owners now have their choice of a variety of once-a-month products to get rid of fleas, ticks, or both pests.
Some examples are Bio Spot, Advantage, and Defend. Recently a natural alternative called Gentle Touch Flea Drops has become available.
Although each product eliminates fleas differently, they are all effective. And since they are toxic only to insects, they will not harm your pet.
- Bio Spot for dogs combines the Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) Nylar with the insecticide permethrin to eliminate all forms of the flea life cycle.
Bio Spot for cats contains only Nylar, but Flea Halt towelettes (included) are soaked with pyrethrins, which is a safer alternative for cats.
- Advantage contains imidacloprid, an ingredient that destroys the adult fleas' nervous system, eliminating them.
- Defend contains the insecticide permethrin, to eliminate adult fleas.
- All-natural Gentle Touch Flea Drops contain citric acid and sodium laurel sulfate, which combine together to dissolve a flea's protective outer shell.
We recommend
topical flea preventatives to our clients, because they are so
simple to apply and because they kill fleas before they have
a chance to bite your pet. We prefer Bio Spot as the most effective
at the lowest cost. If you wish to use a monthly oral tablet,
Program, with its Insect Development
Inhibitor (IDI) lufenuron, prevents flea eggs and flea larvae
from maturing into biting and breeding adults.
As you can
see, in this new millennium there are many flea prevention options
for the pet owner. Whichever preventative you choose, you will
be pleased that you haven't allowed your house to become a residence
for homeless fleas!
