Thank you for your question. VHO fluorescent lamps are similar to standard fluorescent lamps, but require a light fixture with a ballast designed for VHO lamps. Standard fluorescent light fixtures will not properly operate a VHO lamp.

Following up on the answer to another question in this section, you reported that, "VHO fluorescent lamps are similar to standard fluorescent lamps, but require a light fixture with a ballast designed for VHO lamps." Does Foster and Smith Aquatics sell fixtures that will be able to house VHO lamps. I'm looking to buy a fixture and the bulbs separately.

How can I mount light strips over an aquarium without placing them on a hood?

I don't want the light passing through a glass or plastic plate before getting to the water. Right now I have the All-Glass strips on the typical hoods with a panel that flips up and down. Are there special brackets available if I just wanted to mount the strips over an aquarium? The aquarium I have is a 40 Long.

you can hang it from the ceiling........or you can make a custom top with the lights mounted to it, with no glass or plastic between the light and water. bulbs should be at least 5-6 inches from water. and plenty of breathing holes for ballast and bulbs.
