can a glass tank cause cloudyness

i have a 75 gallon tank, and it stays cloudy all the time, i have to clean it at least twice a month. i bought the tank used, and everything else inside is completely new, wash before putting in tank.

The problem also could be caused by over feeding, Try only feeding maybe 2 to three times a week. hope this helps.

Unless you are over stocked with fish, your tank is probably trying to recycle. Leave it alone and treat is with Nitro Max to speed up the process.

No it is not the glass tank. Sounds like your filteration is inadequate. I'd check that and also take a water sample to your local pet shop and have it tested for ammonia/nitrites.

As stated earlier it's a water quality issue. It is probably from the previously stated un-cycled tank and your overly zealous cleaning may be contributing to the problem by hindering the beneficial aerobic bacteria from forming to complete the cycle. I would recommend Googling cycling fish tanks and proceed from there. The best way to tell if the tank is cycled is to buy one of the Master Test Kits sold by Foster and Smith.

To answer your question no the glass tank will not cause the cloudiness you are seeing.The cause of your problem could be several thing and the first is your gravel(if you are using it) if you didn't throughly rinse it the cause of your problem could be dust from your gavel.Another issue could be water quality because if your filter is of inadequate size or hasn't cycled then your problem is likely a bacterial bloom of beneficial bacteria thet are proccessing the excess waste produced by your fish.Another source of your problem could be you added a. too many fish for your tank size or b. you added too many fish at once which either case would produce the bacterial bloom which is the white stuff you're seeing to consume the excess wastes.I hope this helps.

Answer:

Yes you can. You can also use it for freshwater fish, not just saltwater setups. It works great for an invertebrate tank at well. Mine has four different species of freshwater shrimp as well as many plants. The lighting is sufficient for even the pickiest of freshwater plants and they bloom.

Live rock isn't needed either but would help give fish places to hide and increase biological system.

You can buy cheap LACE rock. It will act like live rock but cost allot less.

When deciding on an aquarium one of the biggest questions is whether to get glass or acrylic. I always opt for glass because it doesn't scratch easily; however, the bad thing is if you do scratch it there is no easy way to get it out (acrylic has a few different options and is a lot easier). You need an abrasive rubbing compound like cerium oxide, a drill and a buffing wheel. The only time this is practical is when the aquarium is not setup. Even if the scratch is on the outside of the tank, I would not recommend trying to do this while there is water in the tank.

Most Scratches in glass tanks are not repairable. Glass is repairable if one is willing to pay a professional to grind and polish the scratch out. The tank has allot of water pressure behind it. Trying to repair a thin glass tank would be asking for trouble. Glass wants to break where it is scratched. If it was an acrylic tank it is possible to repair the scratch easily. If the scratch isn't very big but bothers you and it's on the front. Turn the tank around and put the scratch on the back. Unless you owned a very large glass tank with thick glass, it isn't feasible to repair the glass.

NEW HINGE FOR GLASS TO OF AQUARIUM

Is there some trick or specific process for getting the glass into a new hinge. I having a very difficult time getting the glass into the slot. ANY IDEAS? Jerry

Try a hair dryer to warm up plastic.It will soften hinge slitely alowing glass to slide in.A nontosic lube is good.

Thank you for your question. You may want to wet the edge of the glass that you are trying to insert into hinge. This may give you enough lubrication to get hinge on.

WhY don't you carry large acyrlic Tanks With built in wetdry systems? They are much lighter and more durable.
