Thank you for your question. Here's a message from our Vet Services team:
Thank you for contacting Doctors Foster and Smith regarding your concern about low-sodium diets for your dog with congestive heart failure.
Unfortunately, none of the Doctors Foster and Smith diets are formulated for a dog in congestive heart failure. These diets are formulated to meet the nutritional needs of a healthy animal with no underlying medical conditions requiring dietary modification.
For a dog with a recent history of congestive heart failure, we would strongly recommend one of the prescription veterinary cardiovascular diets available through your veterinarian. These diets are formulated to be low in sodium and meet the nutritional needs of a dog with heart disease. Many of the prescription cardiovascular diets include higher levels of certain vitamins that may be lost through the urine with diuretics, reduced sodium and chloride to control fluid retention and hypertension, and additional key nutrients to support cardiac health. These diets are only available through your veterinarian. These prescription diets are not comparable to any over the counter diet.
Thanks again for contacting us. We hope this information is useful and that your dog does well.
