Thank you for contacting Doctors Foster & Smith regarding your question.
Most dogs that have been treated for urinary tract stones are on a special prescription diet to prevent recurrence of the stones. It is important to note that there are different types of urinary tract stones, meaning the stones differ in their composition, and the different types are treated with different prescription diets. Feeding anything other than the appropriate prescription diet can negate the effects of the prescription diet, making the pet susceptible to forming urinary tract stones again. Some of the prescription diets have corresponding treats that can be fed to the pet or the diet may come in both dry and canned formulations. The canned formulation can be given as a treat or even baked into biscuits and given as treats. If your pet only eats dry food, you can give the kibble as a treat. There are no over the counter treats or diets that are formulated to treat or prevent urinary tract stones. It would also be recommended to discuss your options with your veterinarian.
