We have a 4 mo. old English Sheperd, we crate him at night & when we're away from home (we work at home#. Soon he will need a larger permanent crate. Would you recommend a wire crate for ventilation or a 2 piece moulded crate? Most of them don't have much ventilation. My mother crated her Eskie in a moulded crate, but set a small fan on low near the crate during the summer months #even tho they have AC). Can you give me your recommendations? Thanks.

Thank you for your interest in Drs. Foster and Smith. When choosing the perfect crate for your pet nowadays it can be a hard choice as there are so many options. First, decide what best suits your home and family atmosphere. The plastic crates don’t allow for full view as most cages would. If you think your pet would prefer more privacy we would suggest the plastic crate. This is also more appropriate for people who have hard wood floors where a cage would scratch if their pet were more ‘active’ in its cage. However, what it really comes down to is, that its customer preference. No, two dogs are alike and choosing a crate to fit your wants and your pets needs would depend on you in the end. Yes, plastic crates do tend to allow the pet to get warmer than the open cages during summer. You will most likely want to put a fan close (not too close) for your pet to keep cooler in the summer months.
