Bones for a picky Lab Retriever??

I've broughten all sorts of bones (flavored) and he gotten used to one particular one and I can't remember which one it was..and I gotten him peanut butter, beef, chicken and he'll lick he off and leave the bone there. and won't touch it anymore..I've spent alot of money on rawhides and I just don't know what to do..I would like to treat my dog to a good bone that he likes..what would you suggest? he's really picky..I've brought dingos with the meat..won't touch anymore..Help..thanks Jami..

Real bones are very dangerous for pets. I worked in a vet clinic and we treated many dogs for intestinal punctures from chewing on bones. The bone splinters and acts like a knife as it works through the digestive tract. You may give a dog 100 bones and it may never cause a problem. But as soon as it does you'll regret giving them any. Rawhides can sofen be swallowed and the dog and choke. We reccomended Greenies (picky dogs didn't seem to like). It may be that you're dog just isn't a chewer anymore. I have 3 lab mixes 1 likes to chew on deer antlers. The other 2 have no desire. My opinion is there isn't any need for an older dog to chew especially if they are eating dry food. You may want to have his teeth checked as he may have a problem that he just doesn't want to chew. Try carrot sticks. Most dogs like them and they are completely healthy for them. So they get a treat without any attached health problems.

I never heard of a picky lab !! I have 5 and they eat and chew anything i give them. To answer your question tho what they like best is if you go to your supermarket or local butcher they sell the big bones they remove from the cows. They are not basted or anything and you do need to boil them up first, but they will eat every inch of it.

I understand your frustration. I have a picky chocolate lab. You should try my family's tactic; we gave up trying to get her to enjoy bones or toys. My lab is, however, relieved that the new puppy plays with his new toys and leaves her alone.
