I'm new to this site (11-7-2013). I hope you get this message. I've had a few cats younger and older. All of them like to play with different things. Mine is almost 7 years old & we have another cat. They hang out a lot and play. You only have one cat? Perhaps the cat is lonely and you need another cat? If not, try items below and report back.
.) Have you tried shoes laces? My cat loves it. I removed the plastic on the end and tied a knot, so it won't shred.
.) Did you try "fake" mice that rattle? My cat loves this. He carry's it around the house and plays with it.
.) A big scratch pad.
.) A big brown paper bag. He loves rolling around in this. If you tap the bag with your hand or a string, the cat goes wild.
.) Both of my cats love the round disc with the ball in it. The ball stays inside and goes around when they play.
.) Have you given the cat treats when he plays? This might help him to play.
.) A few boxes to climb in and out works too.
.) Plastic balls with bells inside or the solid ones with no bells.
