They should not have "sanded" perches. Meaning nothing with true grains of sand on it like the sandpaper covers. But they should have at lease one of the nail trimmer type perches to help keep their nails in shape and they use them as beak groomers also. All bird cages should have a minimum of 3 perches, all different shapes, sizes and materials. You need one natural limb, one nail trimmer and one twisted rope. Get rid of the dowel rods that come with cages. They are the worst thing you can do to your bird's feet. Let them be used as chew toys. Buy the nail trimmer perch in a size that is too large for your bird's toes to reach around. The nails must contact the perch surface for it to be effective.
