Dental Care Shouldn't Be Like Pulling Teeth Because our pets can't brush their own teeth, it's up to their owners to ensure their pets get the oral care they need. Trouble begins when food particles and bacteria build up in the mouth forming plaque and tartar, which leads to gingivitis and severe periodontal disease. Periodontal disease leads to tooth decay, bad breath, bleeding gums, and in severe cases, tooth loss. Even more complications may arise when the bacteria from the mouth enter the pet's bloodstream, possibly resulting in damage to the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs. Monitor your pet's oral health and contact your veterinarian if you have concerns. The American Veterinary Dental Society recommends three steps for pet oral health:
Teaching your pet to accept a regular dental program early in his life is by far the easiest way to keep plaque at bay. Use the following guidelines to clean your pet’s teeth and do it regularly.
Dental Cleanser: Drs. Foster & Smith Dental Cleanser helps promote healthy teeth and gums through regular use, as well as reduce bad breath and plaque build-up. Directions for use: Oral Rinse: Hold pet's head steady with one hand. Gently squirt Dental Cleanser between teeth and side of mouth, starting at one corner of mouth. Massage mouth over teeth, working cleaner over surface of teeth. Tooth Brushing or Swabbing: Pour small amount of cleanser in a small dish or cup. Hold pet's head steady with one hand, dip toothbrush or swab into solution and gently brush teeth. Dip brush in cleanser as needed. Ingredients: 0.1% Chlorhexidine Gluconate Additional Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Peppermint Flavor, Carmine Color. |

| Q. | If I use the Dental Clens products do I still have to brush my pet's teeth with toothpaste? |
|---|---|
| A. | The Dental Cleanser or Dental Clens pads should be sufficient for dental care. If you find that your pet's teeth still need some extra attention, you can also brush their teeth with toothpaste.
|
| Q. | How many Dental Clens Pads do I need each time I clean my pet’s teeth? |
|---|---|
| A. | The amount of pads to use during each cleaning depends on how big your dog is plus how much plaque your dog's teeth have.
|
| Q. | How do I use the Dental Clens Pads and Dental Cleanser? |
|---|---|
| A. | The Dental Clens Pads can easily be wiped over your pet's teeth to clean them. The Dental Cleanser can be used with a toothbrush, a swab, or as an oral rinse. If you are using a toothbrush or a swab, dip it into a cup or a bowl filled with the solution and gently brush your pet's teeth. Dip the brush or swab as needed. If you use it as an oral rinse, simply squirt cleaner in mouth and massage over gums and teeth.
|
| Q. | Can I use the solution or the pads every day? |
|---|---|
| A. | The Dental Cleanser and Dental Clens Pads are safe to be used everyday. A daily dental cleansing routine is beneficial to your pet's teeth and overall health.
|
| Q. | Do I have to use both the solution and the pads? |
|---|---|
| A. | Some people find that one product is easier to use than the other. We have the two products to give you more options on cleaning your pet's teeth. If your pet has a lot of build up on his teeth you may want to use both, but it is not required.
|
| Q. | Will this help my pet's breath? |
|---|---|
| A. | Yes. During cleaning, the bacteria that causes bad breath is removed from your pet's mouth. There is also a peppermint flavor in both products to freshen your pet's breath.
|
| Q. | What is chlorhexidine and what does it do? |
|---|---|
| A. | Chlorhexidine is an antibacterial agent that kills bacteria. Bacteria are one of the major factors causing plaque.
|
| Q. | Is it safe if my pet swallows some of the Dental Cleanser? |
|---|---|
| A. | Dental Cleanser can be ingested; your pet will swallow a small amount during cleaning. Swallowing some of the cleaner should not cause a problem for your pet.
|
| Q. | Can I use the solution or the pads on my cat? |
|---|---|
| A. | Yes, both the Dental Cleanser and the Dental Clens Pads may be used on your cat.

If there is one thing I would recommend to dog owners, it's dental care. I have a four-year-old Boxer named Sam. He actually loves having his teeth cleaned and I am sure it's because we started from his puppy years with Drs. Foster & Smith Dental Cleanser and Pads. These products make it easy and enjoyable for owners and their pets. Not to mention it's much better having your face licked by a dog with clean teeth and fresh breath! |

My dogs had serious plaque buildup on their teeth. After just one bottle of Drs. Foster & Smith Dental Cleanser Solution, they have beautiful white teeth, all nine of them. We also use it on the cat's teeth. They all like the taste. |

We love the Drs. Foster & Smith Dental Clens Pads. Maxwell Benson, our 9-month-old Chinese Pug, looks forward to "brushing his teeth". He loves the taste and gets excited when I get the jar out of the drawer!! Our veterinarian says Maxwell has the "cleanest mouth and whitest teeth" and I contribute that to the Drs. Foster & Smith products! |

I've been using the dental cleanser and oral sponges for several years on my 6 y/o Boxer. Everytime he visits the vet for checkups, shots, etc, they say he has teeth like a puppy because they are so white. He seems to like the taste and enjoys the attention. |

I have a 90-lb. Doberman. He has the cleanest teeth in PA. Drs. Foster & Dental Cleanser Solution is a great product and he seems to like it. He walks into the bathroom in the evening and sits down to have me brush his teeth. |

The Drs. Foster and Smith Dental Sponges are the greatest things I have EVER found! I have dachshunds (small mouths), & they bucked everything that I tried to use to brush their teeth! Even (human) baby toothbrushes did not get it done! I even tried to use white cotton gloves to cleanse their teeth! When their vet suggested a "water pick", I rolled my eyes, and my dogs did also! They really like the dental sponges & the dental sponges have enough "roughness" that they do help clean and/or apply meds to the teeth & gumline - easy! I have recently acquired an Airedale Terrier pup & she waits in line for her "dental work!" This is an outstanding product! Thanks to Foster and Smith for the "leg-work" on producing it! |

It really does help to brush your dog's teeth. I use this cleanser with the long double ended toothbrush(small end for 3 chihuahuas) twice a day most of the time. I think they appreciate having clean teeth, plus it promotes better health overall. Take the time and effort, and you'll be giving them a healthier life! |
