West Nile-Innovator® Vaccine by Fort Dodge

For vaccination of healthy horses against West Nile virus (WNV). West Nile-Innovator vaccines are available in two convenient combinations, as well as a stand-alone vaccine. This is the only West Nile vaccine available in combination with eastern, western and/or Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis - with or without tetanus.

Ready-to-use horse vaccines - no reconstitution required. Vaccine is killed and adjuvanted with MetaStim. MetaStim contains easy-to-metabolize lipids that improve vaccine performance while minimizing the potential for injection site reactions. Pre-loaded single-dose syringe includes needle. Administer intramuscularly (IM) only. Purchase two to use one as a booster.

West Nile virus is one of the fastest-growing threats to horses nationwide and the incidence of this virus has more than doubled in just the last two years. The USDA has credited West Nile-Innovator with contributing to the 70% decline in the United States equine West Nile cases at the height of the epidemic. Up to 40% of horses who have been diagnosed with WNV have died or been euthanized due to declined health as a result of the virus. West Nile virus is carried by infected birds that migrate throughout the country. Mosquitoes are infected after taking a blood meal from an infected bird. Infected mosquitoes then transmit the virus to other birds and mammals, including humans and horses. The most serious manifestation of this virus is fatal encephalitis in about 40% of equine cases. Other clinical signs include fever, stumbling/tripping, muscle weakness/twitching, partial paralysis, head pressing, inability to rise, convulsions, and coma.

This regulation helps ensure vaccine quality and consistency in labeling. However, because of this regulation, we cannot accept open packages of vaccines for return or replacement once the seal or package has been broken.

West Nile-Innovator®
Indications: For the vaccination of healthy horses as an aid in the prevention of viremia caused by West Nile virus. Efficacy was demonstrated in horses that received two doses of the vaccine and were challenged one year post-vaccination with West Nile virus. The vaccine protected 95% of the vaccinates against infection, while 82% of the controls were viremic.

Dosage and Administration: Inject one 1 mL dose intramuscularly using aseptic technique. Administer a second 1 mL dose 3 to 6 weeks after the first dose. Revaccinate annually with one 1 mL dose.

Remove serial number and expiration date label and place on the animal's medical chart.

West Nile-Innovator® +VEWT
Dosage and Administration: Horses, inject one 1 mL dose intramuscularly using aseptic technique. Administer a second 1 mL dose 3 to 4 weeks after the first dose. A 1 mL booster dose should be given annually. Early revaccination may be advisable when horses are faced with an outbreak or with other conditions which might make heavy exposure likely.

Indications: For vaccination of healthy horses as an aid in the prevention of viremia caused by West Nile virus, and as an aid in the prevention of equine encephalomyelitis due to Eastern and Western viruses, and tetanus. Efficacy of the West Nile fraction was demonstrated in horses that received two doses of the vaccine and were challenged on year post-vaccination with West Nile virus. The vaccine protected 95% of the vaccinates against infection, while 82% of the controls were viremic.

Dosage and Administration: Horses, inject 1 mL dose intramuscularly using aseptic technique. Administer a second 1 mL dose 3 to 4 weeks after the first dose.
