Equine feed additive in pyrantel-based parasite control formula |
| * |
Protects against large and small strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids |
| * |
Safe for use on all horses, including broodmares, stallions, and foals |
Daily equine feed additive helps keep your horse parasite free. Delicious alfalfa pellets are combined with one of two concentrations of pyrantel tartrate for effective, multi-stage parasite control. Simply mix the recommended amount with your horse's daily grain ration. Safe for use with all horses, including foals, pregnant mares in any stage, and stallions. Equi Aid CW Continuous Wormer includes 2.11% pyrantel to control adult large and small strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids, as well as larval stages of Strongylus vulgaris. Feed 1/2 oz per 250 pounds body weight daily. 10 lb or 50 lb buckets worm a 1000 lb horse for 80 or 400 days, respectively. Equi Aid SW Strongyle Wormer includes 1.06% pyrantel for mature-stage parasite control of strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids, or roundworms. Feed 1 oz per 250 pounds body weight daily. 25 lb bucket worms a 1000 lb horse for 100 days. 1 oz measuring scoop included. For Horses.

Pyrantel tartrate-based feed additive targets the neuromuscular system of parasites, which paralyzes them and moves them harmlessly out of the horse's system. Since your horse is fed the wormer on a daily basis, the parasites are removed as they enter the intestine. Consequently, horses fed Equi Aid CW or SW can live nearly worm free.
Targets and controls large strongyles (adults), small strongyles (adult and fourth stage larvae), pinworms, and ascarids (adults and fourth stage larvae).
Equi Aid CW Continuous Wormer - Use Instructions
Administer on a continuous basis as a top dress on the horse's daily ration. Feed at the rate of 1.2 mg pyrantel tatrate per pound of body weight per day. To achieve this dose, administer 0.5 ounces of CW Continuous Wormer per 250 lbs of body weight. CW Continuous Wormer should be administered for the entire period that the animal is at risk to internal parasites. Unprotected animals that have grazed may already have an established Strongylus vulgaris larval infestation. Before administering CW Continuous Wormer, these animals should be treated with a therapeutic dose of a larvicidal product.
Foals may be fed CW Continuous Wormer at such a time when consistent intake of grain mix is occurring. This is generally between two and three months old. CW Continuous Wormer may be used in mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not affected by the use of CW Continuous Wormer.

Frequently Asked Questions
| Q. |
What are the advantages of daily dewormers? |
| A. |
Parasite infestations never have a chance to get established because larvae are killed prior to their migration. This eliminates the tremendous amount of internal damage done during this portion of the parasitic cycle. On the other hand, most purge wormers simply clean out worms for a relatively short period and do not prevent larval migration. Thus the cycle of infestation is only interrupted and not prevented.
|
| Q. |
How do I begin a daily worming program? |
| A. |
To begin a daily worming program, migrating arterial stages of blood worms should be removed. Before administering Equi Aid CW or SW, a therapeutic dose of a broad spectrum larvacidal product, such as those that contain ivermectin, should be given. Equi Aid dewormers can then be administered on a daily basis.
|
| Q. |
At what age can I begin feeding Equi Aid daily dewormers to my foals? |
| A. |
Foals may be fed Equi Aid daily dewormers at such time when consistent intake of grain mix is occurring. This is generally between two and three months of age.
|
| Q. |
Can Equi Aid CW and SW be used for mares in foal and during what periods of gestation can they be fed? |
| A. |
Yes, Equi Aid CW or SW have a wide margin of safety for mares in foal and can be fed through all stages of gestation and lactation.
|
| Q. |
Are CW and SW okay for breeding stallions? |
| A. |
Yes, both are approved for breeding stallions.
|
| Q. |
How do these products impact my horse and its environment? |
| A. |
Pyrantel tartrate has been tested and found to have a wide margin of safety. Small dosages along with a clean safety record ensure that pyrantel tartrate is safe for your horse. After the product is passed through the horse's system, it breaks down in sunlight, therefore minimizing any impact on the environment.
|
| Q. |
If Equi Aid CW and SW eliminate the parasite problem, is the manure no longer contaminated with worm eggs, and if so, does this make the spreading of manure a safer means of disposal? |
| A. |
Because these products eliminate the worm problem, manure from treated horses can be safely spread over pastures and corrals. Pyrantel tartrate breaks down when exposed to sunlight, rendering it harmless to insects that break down manure. Equi Aid dewormers are safe for the environment as a whole.
|
| Q. |
If a horse is on a daily wormer for an extended period of time, do the worms build up an immunity to the product? |
| A. |
Unlike the benzimidazole family of wormers (which have shown a resistance problem), pyrantel based dewormers have been used in horses since the mid 1970's without worms developing a resistance to them. Pyrantel-based dewormers use neuromuscular paralysis for parasite control, while benzimidazoles cause disturbances in energy metabolism. This difference is most likely why pyrantel resistance has not emerged and is not likely to become a problem in the future.
|
| Q. |
What if I feed my horse too much? |
| A. |
Although Equi Aid CW and SW have been tested with yearling horses at very high doses without causing any harm, careful handling of all feed supplements is important.
