I was having a little trouble with my saltwater tank having and odor my son told me to get more bio balls and I did and it did the trick. It also helps to get oxygen into the water. Great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sterling I have bought many of these
I have bought many of these. These are my favorite for the surface area and the way water trickles through them.
You never replace or wash these. If you need to remove detritus build up. You just rinse them in aquarium water.
Take a five gallon bucket of water removed during a water change let the sediment settle. Pour just the water into another bucket. Place the balls in the water and move balls around enough to have detritus fall off. Take the balls out and put back into filter. Never let the bio-balls dry out!! This will kill off your biological filter. Get your filter running as soon as possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by penumbra So far so good
I have started to cycle my pond, before adding the fish. The bio balls are for biological filtration. I like them so far as they are easier to work with than rocks, etc., with much greater surface area. I am probably about a month away from adding fish so I can't say anything long term, but so far Iike them very much and the price was one of the best I could find.

Rated 4 out of 5 by jfish208 More than I thought
I placed the bio balls in my 3 stage canister filter, and thought that a gallon would be sufficient. I was right, but 1 gallon was more than I needed. So the amount was awesome!! I should mention that my 3 stage filter isn't a small one, its designed for up to 100 gallons, and I use it on my 46 gallon. No complaints here.
