Easy Step High-Guard Pet Gate

Tall, 41"-gate corrals large, active pets, while 7" x 10" small door allows cats to pass back and forth to access food and litter. Gate can be installed to swing one way. Using the gate: To open: Slide the safety catch over and lift the handle to swing the gate open. To close: Swing the gate closed firmly and press the handle down until the safety catch clicks into place.

Using the small pet door: To open, pull knob out and swing the door open. To close, pull the knob out and shut the door. Once the locking pin is aligned with the hole in the gate frame, release the knob.

Screw each hand wheel on to a threaded spindle rod with the hollow side of the hand wheel facing away from the white pad on the end of the spindle.

Insert the assembled threaded spindle rods and hand wheels into the appropriate holes in the plastic end plugs at the top and bottom tube ends of the gate.

Installation Instructions:

1. Position the gate in the required opening. It may be necessary to squeeze together the top part of the frame.

2. Position the gate so that the gate opens to the side the pet will be.

3. Place a wall cup over each spindle rod. Turn the bottom hand wheels so as to extend the adjusting spindles until the base is held firmly and the gaps on either side of the gate are as equal as possible. Then turn the top hand wheels to extend those adjusting spindles to reduce the gap between the handle and the side rail. The gate is correctly positioned when the gap between the handle and the side rail is about 1/16".

   IMPORTANT: It is essential that the gate be as nearly vertical as possible and that it be closed and locked at the top and bottom before marking the position of the wall cups.

4. Mark the position of the wall cups on the wall with a pencil and remove the gate. NOTE: If installing the gate in a doorway, ensure that the cups to not interfere with the closing of the door.

5. Using the screws provided, screw the wall cups in their marked positions. The screws provided are suitable for a minimum wood thickness of 3/4".

6. Replace the gate inside the attached wall cups. Turn the bottom hand wheels until the base is held firmly, again ensuring that the gaps on either side of the gate are as nearly equal as possible. Then turn the top hand wheels towards the gate frame to reduce the gap between the handle and the side rail until it is about 1/16". So not over-tighten as that may prevent the locking mechanism from functioning.

Do not use more than two extensions per gate.

• Assemble the gate using the assembly instructions above up to step 5.
• Choose the side of the gate to be extended and remove the top and bottom adjusting spindles and hand wheels.
• Insert the top and bottom spindles of the extension into the top and bottom of the gate. Attach the adjusting spindles and hand wheels you removed from the gate into the side of the extension nearest the wall.
• Finish assembling the gate per steps 5 and 6, above.

Very impressed with the Easy Step High-Guard Pet Gate. We have two labs and two cats. For now we are keeping them separated until the labs calm down a little bit more. I needed a tall, sturdy gate and this gate is wonderful. Well made and tall. For now I have installed a shade at the top of the doorway which I pull down to the top of the gate. A little assurance to keep my jumpers on their side of the gate. We are really enjoying the ease of opening the gate door. The door stays open nicely incase you don't need it closed all the time. The latch on the gate is very well made and secure. We look forward to many years of enjoying this gate. It is exactly what we needed. Thank you.

This extra tall gate with separate kitty door is fabulous (I have two lab mixes and two cats).

Appearance: I purchased four doors in the "platinum" finish (which blends nicely with the pewter fixtures in the house). The gates are reasonably attractive and I get lots of compliments on them from visitors.

Installation: Installation of the first door took a while but the next three were a breeze (learning curve). I also used only the pressure attachments without the fixed cup caps and have had no difficulties. If young children, or a particularly rambunctious dog, were in the house though, I would definitely use the caps, just for extra safety and security. I also used a total of three 6" extensions in one doorway with no difficulty (instead of the two maximum recommendation).

Pet Containment: The extra tall feature successfully keeps both the cats and dogs out of rooms when the kitty gate is closed.

Removal: The gates are very easy to remove temporarily (for example, to enable moving of furniture or carpet cleaning, etc.) and very easy to reinstall.

In Conclusion: Highly recommended!

This is a good quality gate. Easy to install if you don't need extensions. Slightly more complicated with an extension. It's VERY tall for a large dog, and it allows for cats to pass through.

We have just installed a gate with 3 - 24" and 1 - 6" extension (I know instructions said not to use more than 2 extensions per gate but we had 10' to go across). Install took about 4 hours and turned out just fine after a few minor adjustments. We have 3 cats and needed to ensure their food would not be available to our new dog so we cordoned off part of a room for their eating area, which is 10' across. Your gate/fence is very sturdy and attractive and the cat door is a perfect addition. Thank you very much for "inventing" this gate - it is an excellent solution.

I just got this gate today and installed it in less than 15 minutes...very easy. I got it to put at the top of my stairs to protect my kids (I don't think it will do much to keep the cats off the stairs). It is incredibly sturdy! Thank you Drs. Foster and Smith! The best investment of my life! I have a "blended household" with two indoor dogs who are not highly fond of one another. One dog is large (65 lbs), the other medium (30 lbs). I have been very worried about leaving the two at home alone unsupervised. My fears are now resolved! They can now be safely secured in the comfort of my home, yet safely separated from one another. The tall height of this gate is perfect for restraining larger dogs -- no resting of the arms on the top rail, and also tall enough to inhibit the desire to jump over. The sturdy end-caps keep the pressure mounted gate from being scooted or knocked out of the doorframe, adding to the security, while making it possible to quickly and easily remove the gate whenever I need uninhibited access between rooms. I purchased the gate and the 24" extension and could not be happier. Again, a multitude of "thanks" from me and "the girls."

What a terrific purchase! Our doorway is a bit wide (38 inches) so we were glad to see that this gate came with an included extension. It was the only one on the market (that we could find) that included this, which makes for a terrific value. With the extension in, the gate fits perfectly. The height is fantastic! You don't need to bend down or climb over anything; the latch is right up around waist/hip level so opening it is a breeze. A lot of gates lock with a bolt that needs to be inserted into a hole in order for the gate to lock properly. This gate is not like that; it's difficult to explain, but it locks so much more easily than other gates I've seen--you don't have to match up a bolt with a hole, because there is no bolt! This makes opening and closing the gate so easy (for people that is!).My husband was able to set it up in less than 15 minutes; it was super simple. We chose the white and it blends in with our decor nicely. Visitors have complimented us on how nice it looks and how easy it is to use. Finally, the price can't be beat. Other gates this height retail for a much higher price than this one. I am very satisfied with the quality and feel that the price is more than reasonable. Initially I was deciding between two gates (one was from another web site), but this one was on sale and the shipping rate was very reasonable. The quality seems pretty good. It only opens in one direction, so you have to decide which way you prefer it to swing. It seems sturdy enough, but I've seen other gates that are much better quality. The door is a bit flimsy and doesn't lock in place super-securely like some other gates do. It does, however, stay open without swinging back to the closed position, which I think is a nice feature. Overall, for the money, you really can't find much better. This one comes with an extension, something other sites charge at least $15 extra for, so the price can't be beat. I purchased the white and it really blends in nicely. Would I purchase it again? Yes. Again, for the money this gate can't be beat.

This gate is great. I actually bought it as a stair gate because of it's height (41"). My mom has Alzheimer's disease and I needed something to keep her from falling down the basement stairs. This is perfect. It even has a little dog-door at the bottom so my dogs can go up and down the stairs with the gate closed. The gate gets 4 of 5 stars from me.... the only con I have found is the minimal width of the gate opening. I am 140# and can barely get thru the opening with anything in my hands (laundry, etc.). I am so glad I found this stair gate. It is perfect for taking care of my mom. Thank you Easy Step !!

I love it, love it! Installed in about 20 minutes. Put screws in the caps later, took 10 minutes. This was purchased to keep my giant dog from getting to the litter box. I now have a secure "cat room" with cat food, litter box and their own dog free water. I can't say enough good things about it. Doctors Foster and Smith always have the best products and the best prices.

I do some grooming for family and friends and some families have multiple dogs. I purchased this gate two years ago and have been VERY satisfied with it. It was easy to install and keeps the extra pets safe in the room with me while I'm grooming one of them. Even the 100 lb. + dogs can't budge it if they jump on it. And if you need it out of the way, it can be removed and re-installed so easily! I recommend it highly for ease of use and reasonable cost.

We love our Easy Step High-Guard Pet Gate. We have two young children and cats; I got this gate to gate off the back of the house so the toddler cannot get into trouble but the cats can come and go as they wish. While the small door is a little wider than a very small child so is not always child-proof, we've used the gate with great success for over a year and a half, from crawler to toddler. We have even travelled with it using it on vacation and at the grandparents. It's easy to open and close, very sturdy, and an excellent value compared to expensive yet cheaply made and poorly designed baby gates.
